ADRIANO ZUMBO - PYRMONT/SYDNEY

Adriano Zumbo Patissier
80 Pyrmont St
Pyrmont (in The Star), Sydney

Who hasn't heard of Zumbo's famous macarons? This place draws you in right from the outset. It has a Hansel and Gretel-like appeal - its so strange and yet inviting.

The decor is amazing - like a weird food science lab from a Disney show. There are things to look at everywhere and yet its a fairly small area.

You should look from the outside first - the windows show so much. The move inside for some close-ups and to decide what to buy.

It's interesting to note that it's not just macarons here. They have croissants, pastries and chocolate treats too. There's a Zumbo sushi-train like area next door too - a Zumbo-train perhaps - that's worth trying.

Of course if you go there you will have to get some macarons. Its a must and they are great. There are so many varieties it's hard to choose. They cost $2.50 each and you can get one or many. A box of six is a good option as you get some variety and they are well presented. Makes a great gift too! You can either choose your own six or they can do it for you. We chose watermelon and orange, passionfruit, milo, cola, finger bun and salted gianduja caramel. It was such a hard choice though!
The chocolate coated macarons are also great - although I prefer the uncoated ones. They are well presented and again make a great gift.
On display in the window are some amazing options. They look like toys but are actually both edible and available to buy. Take for example Grandma's Soap made with blueberry compote, fresh blueberries, lavender chantilly & almond cème. At $9  it has a real wow factor.

Adriano Zumbo Patisserie is an amazing place just to see - but the treats there make it even more appealing. The choices are so hard!
